RTMP DownloaderMore and more flash video sites are using Adobe's RTMP protocol to serve the videos on their sites. This has been problematic lately since you cannot download these videos via HTTP (your browser). Sites like Brightcove, Hulu, and other all use this protocol, making it impossible for my downloader to get you these videos. MySpace even uses it to serve the music on peoples profiles. I have loooked around the web to find a program to let you download files via RTMP and have found nothing. The closest I have found are programs that just capture the stream as you watch it. I wanted something as simple as letting you enter a URL and download it (then in the future possibly integrate it with browsers and what-not, but for now, just the basic download). Apparently nobody has made a program like this. So I have decided that I will write one myself. That would also enable to downloader to work for these sites as it can give you the RTMP url to sites like these, which you can then use my RTMP downloader to download them with! So how can you help? I am still working on figuring out exactly how the RTMP protocol works. I am spending lots of time on Google reading site after site that only somewhat explain it. If you think you can help and have any info that ends up helping with this project (mostly anything I might be missing on how the RTMP protocol works, but if you come up with something else usefull, awesome), I will credit you with your name and a link of your choice in the program itself and on this site. Hopefully we can get this program going and let the project grow over time. I would love to see a dozen plus names all having worked together to beat Adobe and these sites trying to stop us from downloading video! So if you think you can help, feel free to get a hold of me via my contact form. Hope to hear from many of you soon! Server costs are tough to cover with Google ads alone. |
